For first-time lunch guests at Nagaokaya (長岡屋)
Nagaokaya (長岡屋) is a soba restaurant on Waseda-dori Avenue in Arai, Nakano, established in 1927. If this is your first visit, please start by looking at the “Recommended by 長岡屋” section of our menu. Our recommendation is Ten-zaru (soba with tempura, cold or hot), which costs ¥1,600 (tax incl.). We are open for lunch 11:30〜14:00 and closed on Saturdays (we also have irregular closing days).
What kind of restaurant is it?
長岡屋 is a soba restaurant founded in 1927 (Showa 2), and it will celebrate 100 years in business in 2027. Today, the 3rd and 4th generations work in the restaurant. The 3rd generation mainly makes the soba, while the 4th generation handles the tempura, evening small dishes and sashimi.
Our soba is house-made. Using a noodle machine we have had since the restaurant's early days, we do every step here, from working the flour into dough to cutting the noodles. Our buckwheat flour is from Japan, mainly from Hokkaido, and depending on the time of year we also use flour from other regions.
What should I order for lunch?
Our recommendation is Ten-zaru (soba with tempura, cold or hot). It is served with tempura of 1 prawn and 4 vegetables, and costs ¥1,600 (tax incl.). You can choose between cold soba and hot soba.
The “Recommended by 長岡屋” section of the menu also includes Kamo soba (soba with duck, cold or hot) at ¥1,200 (tax incl.), and curry soba or udon at ¥1,070 (tax incl.).
If you prefer a tempura rice bowl, we have the tempura rice bowl set at ¥1,300 (tax incl.). For our tempura rice bowls, we use a secret sauce that we have kept topping up since the restaurant opened. Our mini sets start from the mini egg set at ¥940 (tax incl.).
Things to know before your visit
We are open 11:30〜14:00 for lunch and 17:30〜20:50 in the evening. We are closed on Saturdays, and also on some irregular days. We are also open on Sundays and public holidays.
We accept cash and Nakano City's digital local currency “ナカペイ”. Credit cards are not accepted.
We accept reservations by phone and online through Hot Pepper Gourmet (seat only). For lunch reservations, please call us to discuss.
We are about 8 minutes on foot from the north exit of JR Nakano Station. We are located on Waseda-dori Avenue. All seats are non-smoking. We do not have a dedicated parking lot.
